Testimonials

In my role as a Lecturer in Physical Education and Coaching Science, I am a very strong advocate for the development of physical health and optimal movement patterns across the lifespan. From my positive experiences of training with Freestyle For Lifestyle, I was exposed to quality instruction from trained personnel, with the provision of regular and guided feedback on my body’s range of motion. The staff provided a warm and welcoming training environment, and most importantly, I noticed an actual change in my movement abilities and overall strength development over time. Our Physical Education Student Techers at UCC thoroughly enjoyed their experiences with Freestyle for Lifestyle also – going forward, I would strongly recommend this source of training, and thank you to the coaches and staff for broadening my understanding of movement. An exceptionally positive experience, thank you Freestyle for Lifestyle.

John had been recommended to me by a friend in September 2019. Before going to see him, I was in a state of constant pain. Any physiotherapy or exercises I had been trying never seemed to work, and often even exacerbated my symptoms. However, under John’s expert and intuitive guidance, I was able to slowly and steadily build back the all-essential strength that I had lost over the years. The exercises were carefully planned and tailored so as to identify the exact muscles that needed building and, having diligently attended every week since September, 2019, I have seen a remarkable improvement in, not just my symptoms, but also my wider capabilities. My quality of life has improved exponentially, and I have so much more stamina in completing everyday tasks, as well as being able to go for long walks (even hikes!) with the children. So much has been accomplished in a year with John, that I cannot wait to see what I will be able to do by this time next year! I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I first heard about John Dillon from my son Owen who is Physio in practice in Cork. When I reached 65 nearly 8 years ago Owen suggested that to keep my body in some kind of shape I should go see John Dillon to do some regular exercising. Since then I have seen John almost every week for an hourly session. John estimates that we have probably done about 40 sessions a year since then I know that the work I have done with John has helped me physically and mentally. Definitely hitting the golf ball further………though not necessarily straighter! Being in business it is sometimes hard to find the time to exercise regularly. The discipline of a regular weekly appointment is so important. I would recommend John Dillon and his team to anyone of any age, whatever their current fitness levels. George Bernard Shaw had a famous saying. “ We don’t stop playing because we get older; We get older because we stop playing”.

Keep up the good work John

Best wishes

We are two 57 yr old ladies, and we have been going to John’s Resistance class together for the last 5 years. Since joining, physically we have become stronger, our friendship has grown deeper, and this physical activity is something we know we will keep up for many years to come. John is such a great motivator. He has encouraged us from the very start. The session is so mindful, as the movements are all about ‘slow & strong’. Along with John’s incredible coaching skills, as we are doing this together, we encourage and motivate each other. We would encourage anyone, regardless of your age to consider Freestyle for Lifestyle. Facing your future, feeling stronger… Because you are worth it!

“I’ve been attending “freestyle for lifestyle” since 2012 having come across John almost by accident. It’s turned out to be my great fortune that I did. I can safely say that the weekly sessions with John and his colleagues have undoubtedly helped me both physically and mentally. The workout is always challenging but never exhausting and the benefits for me are so evident in terms of flexibility and core strength. It has meant that in my fifties I can continue to enjoy a regular run something that without Freestyle I’m not sure I would manage without injury or ailment. Above all, the one to one nature of the training makes for a great environment to chat (not too much!!) as you workout and accordingly I look forward to the sessions as much for the social aspect of them as well as the physical side. Freestyle is a first class and unique way of exercise and I couldn’t recommend it enough.”

Before I started going to freestyle gym I was in a lot of pain. I’d had a whiplash injury a decade before and had had issues with my neck and back ever since. I had gone to numerous physio sessions with only short-term relief and was at my wit’s end. But after a few weeks of going to freestyle gym my pain was much better and kept improving and my mobility and strength massively improved. I’ve been going to freestyle gym now for 4 years and it has dramatically improved my quality of life. I would have found it hard to believe before going that one hours exercise a week could make such a difference but I am proof that it can.
Thanks

It was October 2016 when I first walked up the stairs to Freestyle for Lifestyle. I had an appointment with John Dillon. I had been told about John by my Sister in Law. She had been going to John for a period of time and she thought I might benefit from having a chat with him. I remember listing my various ailments to John fully expecting him to say there was nothing he could do for me. These included the following: two main artery stents fitted 2009, 40 years of severe lower back problems, tennis elbow and bladder Cancer. I am 65 years old. I was recovering from surgery at the time. I was overweight & very unfit. I was not in a good place physically & was generally feeling sorry for myself. I have worked with John & his team for four years.I am fitter & stronger now than I have ever been. My ailments have disappeared completely & my enjoyment of life has improved greatly. Don’t get me wrong, John is not a miracle worker. I have put in a huge amount of effort to get where I am today. John & his team have been with me every step of the way. Freestyle for Lifestyle is a very important part of my weekly activities now & hopefully will be for many years to come.

Miriam and I started doing John’s personal training by Zoom in April, initially because the gyms were closed during lockdown. We have found it both varied and enjoyable. It really is amazing how much you can do with a few bands and some items from around the house. From a personal point of view my mobility and strength have improved significantly. I would recommend it to anybody but perhaps especially to those who have sedentary lifestyles and spend most the day at work in one position. We intend to keep it up whether the gyms are open or not.

In my early 50s I was beginning to notice some loss of muscle mass and was concerned about osteoporosis. I heard about Freestyle for Lifestyle from an osteopath and for the past 5 years have done a one hour weekly gym session with John. I have seen a noticeable improvement in my muscle strength and definition, my flexibility and stamina. I now consider my weekly sessions with John as essential to my continued body maintenance and injury prevention.

Everyday fitness is what has changed for me in 4 years of training at the gym with Taylor and john. After 30 years nursing my body was not operating or feeling at it best. I was sore from head to toe daily. This has all changed as my back and neck pain are gone and in their place a freedom of movement, a range of motion, an energy and fitness I am very proud of. I am the fittest I have ever been and feel like there’s more improvements to come. Cannot recommend it enough.

First of all I would like to thank you for the four weeks that you took out of your time to help us. I took few notes each week and the first three weeks I found brilliant really interesting and challenging, I struggled in thinking how could get it towards teaching it to the class and get students to understand and this week it really hit home with the terminology you did applying to the activities, I just felt it was so easy to understand. I had issues with mic and couldn’t ask questions but I was so impressed, this will be so useful going forward to our coarse. Kind Regards and keep well.

John Crawford, PE student UCC

I learned of muscle pain in places I never new muscles existed. Very simple and easy to follow and the results are incredible. Highly recommend!

UCC Student

I enjoyed using bands instead of our usual weights.

UCC Student

I thought it was all positive and introduced me to a different aspect of exercising.

UCC Student

I found the use of just a resistance band for all the exercises very beneficial as it showed how effective even just a simple piece of equipment can be.

UCC Student

I particularly liked the fourth session that had a big emphasis on relating the information to students in an accessible way. I really enjoyed the sessions as i felt it was something new and different and something which could definitely be incorporated into my future lessons.

UCC Student

I thoroughly enjoyed the last class. Really emphasised that this field is beneficial for everyone.

UCC Student

Overall it was a really interesting experience, no negatives apart from the fact that such a new and engaging module had to be delivered online but obviously the times we were in its the best that can be done.

UCC Student

I enjoyed it as it was a completely different method of training to what i’m used to. It was both enjoyable and challenging.

UCC Student

Positive – gave a completely new perspective on strength training. Showed simple effective movements that can be done with little equipment.

UCC Student

I felt johns cuing was excellent, external cues are great for online classes, the sessions build an awareness around mind muscle connections, removing the stretch reflex used by many to perform resistance based movements i feel were great.

UCC Student

A positive I have would be how it was a different style of exercise to what people are normally used to.

UCC Student

I thought it was exceptionally well ran. John was enthusiastic and hugely knowledgeable. The whole process was thoroughly enjoyable. It is just a pity it wasn’t recorded. Thanks so much for everything John.
